6 Tips to get the most from your photo session with your dogs

You are ready to book a photography session and are wondering what you need to do to help make it a wonderful experience for you and your dogs. Here are some things you can do to prepare your dogs for their session.

1. Take your dogs to the venue prior to your session.

If your dogs aren't used to traveling around with you, or they are nervous at a new place, try to visit your session location with your dogs a day or two before your session. That way your dogs will be much more at ease when you arrive on session day. If you can't make it until the day of your session, arrive at least 30 minutes before your session start time to give your dogs time to look and sniff around and get settled into the new environment.

2. Spend some time working on sit and stay.

A few short lessons teaching your dogs sit and stay will help them focus on session day. Include some play time as well.

3. Bring your dogs favorite treats and toys.

I'll bring treats as well, but it's best to have some you know they love. If your dogs love to play, we can get photos of them chasing a ball or playing tug with you. They will still be on leash to play for safety, and I'll remove the leashes as much as possible in your final images.

4. Wear comfortable shoes.

We Will be doing lots of walking and you don't want your feet hurting on session day. Choose shoes that fit well and don't have high heels since we will be walking on uneven ground while moving around your session venue.

5. Bring a towel and a lint roller.

This will help keep your clothes free of hair and dirt. You can also bring a cloth to wipe your dog's face, especially if any of your dogs is a breed that drools. The lint roller will be a life saver if your clothes show hair. If your clothes are covered in hair, I can get some of the hair off during the editing process, but I won't be able to make your clothes hair free.

6. Remember to relax!

The most important thing on session day is not to stress when your dogs are not sitting still like you expected, or are distracted by wildlife or other dogs. This happens a lot and we will still get some great images. Also, if you are upset your dogs will feel it and will be stressed as well.
